Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Secret of the Ring Ruins Quest Walkthrough

Starting Location: Secret of the Ring Ruins

Once you obtain the Main Quest: Find the Fifth Sage, you'll need to search for clues to locate the Fifth Sage. However, before you can do that, you must complete some other Main Quests. One of these quests involves uncovering the secret of the Ring Ruins, which begins in Kakariko Village located in the Necluda region. To initiate this questline, head to the north of the village and speak with Tauro and Paya, the two individuals standing near the Floating Ring Ruins with a red quest marker above their heads. They will instruct you to enter the Ring Ruins to locate the Stone Slab. Additionally, you must have finished the Main Quest: Camera Work in the Depths, a quest that can be obtained from Robbie or Josha in Lookout Landing, to unlock the ability to take photographs.

Take a Picture of the Stone Slab in Ring Ruins

Ascend the scaffolding in front of the quest givers and teleport using the Ascend ability to enter the Flying Ring Ruins. Take a picture of the slab by selecting the Camera from the Ability Wheel. Use Ascend again to teleport through the Ring and glide down to the quest givers. Show the picture to them by saying “What about this image?” and they will read the slab, which will give you a new waypoint at Popla Foothills Skyview Tower.

Proceed to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower

To get to Popla Foothills Skyview Tower, locate the well in front of it and descend into it to find the trapped repairman. From there, enter the cave south of the tower by going down the cliffs coordinates 0605, -2226, 0051 to rescue him. Once he's free, he'll repair the tower for you. Then, speak to Calip, who can be found in front of the tower. If he's sleeping, you can wait until noon at the nearby campfire. Calip will instruct you to investigate the Zonai Ruins located southeast of the area, near Dracozu Lake. You can glide there from the skyview tower.

Speak with Tauro in Zonai Ruins

Once you reach the northeastern edge of Dracozu Lake, head to the campfire located there. Behind the campfire, there is an entrance to the ruins. You can find the entrance at coordinates 0968, -2531, 0008. Inside the ruins, talk to Tauro, who will give you a riddle. The riddle says, "Wear the electric garb hidden at long-necked dragons along the wide-mouthed forest serpent. Offer a Zonai charge to the altar at the tail."

Solve the Serpent Riddle

To proceed with the quest, you need to find and equip three armor parts that are charged with electricity. All of them are in nearby caves along the river.

The first item, Charged Shirt, can be found in a chest located in the same room where you talked to Tauro. The coordinates are 1002, -2539, 0013.

To find the second item, Charged Trousers, follow the river south. On the right side of the river, you will come across a cave that is blocked by rocks. Use Yunobo's attack to break the rocks and access the chest inside the cave. The coordinates for this cave are 0986, -2689, 0007.

For the third item, Charged Headdress, continue following the river a little further south and look for another cave entrance on the left side. The entrance is blocked by brown roots, which you can slice by attacking with a melee weapon. The chest inside the cave contains the Charged Headdress. The coordinates for this cave are 0970, -2803, 0007.

Once you have equipped all three charged armor pieces, head to the Zonai Charge Altar located in a cave in the west of Damel Forest. To get there, continue following the river. The cave entrance is located at coordinates 0707, -2757, 0010. Open your inventory, select "Hold" on a Zonai Charge, then place it directly on the altar to trigger a cutscene. This will give you a new quest marker to continue the quest.

Ensure that you have equipped all three charged armor pieces from your inventory. Once you have the armor on, you need to put a Zonai Charge on the altar inside a cave located in the west of Damel Forest. Follow the river to reach the cave entrance, which is at coordinates 0707, -2757, 0010. Open your inventory, click “ Hold ” on a Zonai Charge, return to the game, and place it on the altar. A cutscene will play, and you will receive a new quest marker.

Return to the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower

Return quickly to Popla Foothills Skyview Tower using fast travel. Then, approach Calip who can be found in front of the tower. In case he is asleep, use the campfire to skip time until noon.

Reach the end of Thunderhead Isles

To reach the flying islands to the southeast, use the Popla Foothills Skyview Tower to launch yourself up, then glide towards your destination. This will be a lengthy glide, and you'll need to utilize Tulin's gust of wind to stay aloft. In case you run low on stamina, you can either consume stamina-boosting meals mid-flight or pay 50 rupees for an additional stamina bar by resting at a stable's expensive bed. Alternatively, you can earn a stamina upgrade by completing Shrines and exchanging four Lights of Blessing at an angel statue ( such as the one located in the underground bunker at Lookout Landing ). The island where you should land is known as Thunderhead Isles on the sky map.

Lightning strikes occur in this region, but you can avoid them by unequipping your weapon, bow, or shield from the inventory. Once unequipped, you won't get struck by lightning. Your objective is to reach the end of this series of flying islands. Glide from one island to the next and use Ascend to teleport through pillars and on top of ruins. From higher ground, you can glide to the next island more effortlessly.

Eventually, you'll come across a lightning conductor connected to a ram. When lightning strikes, it will activate the ram. Stand on it to be propelled to the next island. You can equip a weapon near the lightning conductor, then quickly unequip it. The weapon will be struck by the lightning instead of you. In the next section, where there is a fairy enemy, use Ascend to climb up the tower and glide to the next island. You will then encounter a metal rail, but instead of using it, Ascend up the rocks on the left side of the rail and glide to the next island.

From this point, direct your gaze downwards to spot the final large island that resembles a dragon head. Glide towards it and head towards the "eye" of the island where the green light of a shrine is visible. Upon landing, proceed to activate the Joku-u Shrine.

Reach The End of Dragonhead Island

Next, approach the large gate and be prepared to sacrifice ten healthy hearts to activate it. If you do not have enough health, you can obtain Health Hearts by completing Shrines and exchanging Lights of Blessing at Angel Statues. One of these statues is located in the Lookout Landing bunker. Remember to consume some food to replenish your health or fast-travel to the Lookout Landing bunker and rest in bed before returning to the shrine.

After opening the gate, activate the green device which will emit a laser from the sky, and a cutscene will follow, concluding the quest. This will also trigger the next Main Quest, Guidance from the Ages Past. Proceed to this quest to continue the story.
