Starting Location:  The Closed Door

The main quest, titled "The Closed Door," begins automatically once you interact with the Temple of Time's door during the "Find Princess Zelda" main quest on Great Sky Island.

Finding and Completing All Three Initial Sets of Shrines

Raura advises marking the three Shrines with the Scope to locate them conveniently. You can find the Shrines' precise map location below. To mark them, pull out the Scope by pressing the Right Stick and place pins by pressing the A button. To replicate the map markers below, open your Map with the - button and press the A button to put the markers.

  • The initial Shrine, Ukouh Shrine, is easily identifiable and located on higher ground, visible from your current position. Simply mark it with your Scope and you're done.
  • The second shrine, In-Isa Shrine, is situated on the western side of Great Sky Island and cannot be seen with the Scope from your current location, as it is hidden behind a floating rock. It is located southwest of the Temple of Time in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
  • The Third Shrine, Gutanbanc Shrine is located on the eastern side of the Great Sky Island, southeast of the Temple of Time, the Gutanbanc Shrine can be found in the snowy, cold weather region of the sky island in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Completing Ukouh Shrine

Upon entering the Shrine, you will acquire the Ultrahand ability, which enables you to manipulate and fuse objects. To operate the Ultrahand, use the L button, Left stick, and B button. Next, press the A button to grab the stone slab and use the R button with any directional buttons to rotate it. Place the stone slab over the gap in the floor to form a bridge. It might require some practice to become familiar with the controls when using this ability for the first time.

At the second gap, you'll see two stone slabs that you must place on the floor. To do this, you can use the Ultrahand ability and press the A button when the slabs are near each other to combine them into one long slab. Once you have the long slab, place it over the gap to create a bridge and simply walk across it.

As you progress to the third section, you'll encounter a long metal rail with a large wooden board and metal hooks on its left. There are also some small metal balls present, but you can ignore them. To proceed, utilize the Ultrahand ability to link one of the "S" shaped metal hooks with the wooden board by pressing the A button when they're close enough to each other. Once they're connected, put the hook onto the long metal rail and quickly jump onto it using the X button. The platform connected to the hook will slide down to the other side as the metal rail has a slight incline.

After finishing the third section, you will reach the end of the shrine. Approach the shrine piece emitting a green glow and interact with it to receive a Light of Blessing. This will recharge your arm and restore its power.

How To Get To In-Isa Shrine

To the southeast of the first shrine, you'll find a rail with various platforms and hooks in the second shrine. Use the Ultrahand ability to merge the platforms and hooks together to form a platform with a hook. Place the hook onto the rail, then climb onto it quickly and let it slide down, just like you did at the end of the first shrine.

After you land, you will encounter a broken bridge. To cross it, you must use the Ultrahand ability to merge three wooden logs into one long log. Then, place the long log over the broken bridge to create a makeshift wooden bridge. Walk over the logs to safely cross the broken bridge.

While traveling south, you might come across Constructs that teach you how to hunt with a bow and cook food. While not mandatory, using a bow with the ZR button to hunt animals for their meat can be useful. Cooking can also be advantageous as it can turn ingredients into meals that restore more health. To use a cooking pot, find one and open your inventory by pressing the + button. Then, select the ingredients and choose "Hold" by pressing the A button. Return to the game by pressing the B button and drop the ingredients into the pot by pressing the A button. Wait for them to cook. Although not crucial at this moment, it is important to understand the process.

Regardless, continue heading south until you reach a waterfall. Descend the waterfall and turn left when you reach the bottom of the river. There, you will find wooden logs and sails. With the Ultrahand, merge two logs and attach a sail to form a boat. However, avoid putting the boat in the water immediately since the wind may cause it to drift away too quickly. Instead, place the boat on the shore and gently push the logs into the water by walking against them. Quickly hop onto the boat before the wind takes it away. If you're too slow, you'll have to make another boat. Once on the boat, let the wind guide you and sail across the lake to the island. Climb the stairs on the island to reach the shrine.

Completing In-Isa Shrine

Upon entering the Shrine, you will obtain the Fuses ability, which allows you to combine weapons with other objects. In front of you, there is a Rusty Claymore sword. Select it from your weapons list and press and hold the Right Directional Button. Then, choose the Fuses ability by pressing the L button and moving the Right Stick downwards. Go up to the boulders and press the Y button to fuse the sword with the boulder, creating a Boulder Hammer. Use it to break the stone blockade and clear the path.

In the next section, turn right and grab the Bow, and Fire Fruits from the tree. To make a Burning Arrow, pull out the bow by holding down the ZR button and pressing the Up Directional Button. Then, select the Fire Fruit by pressing the Right Directional Button. Shoot the Burning Arrow at the vines on the wall to reveal a platform with a chest. Open it to get a Small Key. Use the key to unlock the door on the main path. Additionally, use the Boulder Hammer to destroy the left pillar in front of the door and obtain another chest as a bonus.

In the next chamber, you will encounter a formidable opponent with a larger health bar than previous enemies. This foe can attack you from a distance and up close, making it a difficult fight. You can take the easy route by shooting arrows from a safe distance, or you can hit the enemy once with your Boulder Hammer and then retreat until you have another opportunity to strike. The arena contains multiple weapons and combinable items that can assist you in the battle. Once you have defeated the enemy, use your Boulder Hammer to destroy the stone blockade, as you did in the previous chamber. Then follow the path to reach the green Shrine, where you can obtain a Light of Blessing and restore power to your hand. Upon exiting, you will receive an Energy Cell, which is beneficial for powering Zonai Devices. The Steward Construct will direct you to a cave, which is the next location we will explore.

Locating Gutanbanc Shrine

Make your way to the southeast entrance of the second Shrine, known as Pondside Cave. Traverse through the cave and along the way, use your Boulder Hammer to break rocks and gather resources like Flint and Rock Salt. Look out for Bubbul, a glowing toad-like enemy that drops a Bubbul Gem, which can come in handy later in the game, although it is not crucial to the story. Also, grab the Archaic Tunic from the chest near the end of the cave to equip it as upper body armor. Once you exit the cave, you will meet Rauru and other Constructs who will explain how to power Zonai devices using green fans/turbines and logs. Using Ultrahand, attach a green Zonai fan to the end of a log and place it in the water. Climb onto the log and hit the fan with a melee attack to activate it and create a fan-powered "boat" that will transport you across the lake.

After reaching the other side, climb the stairs to enter another cave called Mining Cave, which you must go through. Towards the end of the cave, you will encounter a Forge where you can trade Zonaite. It's advisable to keep a few Zonai Charges and Crystallized Charges in reserve, so grab some from the Forge. At the end of the cave, talk to the Mining Construct who will give you three pieces of Zonai Fans in capsules. Open your inventory, locate the Zonai Devices, and select the Fan. Stick it to the back of a minecart, then place the Minecart on the rails and climb in. Hit the fan to power it, and the cart will move up the rails.

Upon arrival at the first Device Dispenser in the game, you will encounter a Construct that allows you to use it. To use it, go to your Inventory, select materials, and choose a Soldier Construct horn. Then, hold the B button to return to the game and press the A button to drop it into the chalice at the dispenser. The dispenser will then provide one Zonai Device for each Zonai part you put in. It is advisable to have a few of these on hand to create things as needed. This Dispenser exclusively provides Fans, Flame Emitters, and Portable Pots.

On this island, you will also find a Forge Construct that assigns you a mini-quest. Speak with the Construct and it will inform you that it needs to return to its friend. To complete the quest, attach another Fan to a Cart using Ultrahand, then lift the quest giver into the cart. Place the cart on the rails next to the quest giver, climb in, and hit the fan. This will propel you and the quest-giver to the other side. Take him out with Ultrahand and place him next to his friend. As a reward, they will give you two Korok Seeds.

To proceed, return to the previous island with the Dispenser by reversing the cart with Ultrahand and hitting the fan again. Follow the path towards the northeast to enter Pit Cave. Collect the Spicy Peppers growing at the entrance of the cave and cook them in the Cooking Pot. It's important to cook them one at a time to make Spicy Sautéed Peppers that protect you from the cold for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. You need to eat these to survive the cold in the upcoming section. Cook about 10 of them. To cook, open your inventory, select the ingredients, and drop them into the pot.

Proceed through the cave, and you'll arrive at a snowy area. Consume the Spicy Sautéed Peppers now as a timer starts counting down from the top left corner of the screen for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. You need to refresh the timer before it reaches zero, or you'll take damage from the cold. Go north through Bottomless Cave, and you will encounter new flesh-eating plant enemies. Killing them is optional, but they drop new materials. You can attack their mouth repeatedly.

After leaving the Bottomless Cave from the top, make your way around to the left until you reach an ice wall, which you can slide down to get to a waterfall. From there, climb to the top to reach Gutanbac Shrine.

Completing Gutanbac Shrine

When you enter the Shrine, you will obtain the Ascend ability that allows you to teleport through ceilings. To use this ability, select Ascend by pressing the L button and Right Stick Up. Stand under the ceiling at the end of the path and press the A button to activate it, which beams you up to the next floor. To exit, press the A button again. You can also use Ascend under the small pillar to get an additional chest. However, be aware that there is an enemy upstairs that will attack you right away. Destroy the wooden boxes on the right side of the enemy, and then use Ascend to reach another hidden chest.

First, cut the two strings that are holding the bridge. Then, stand under the bridge and use Ascend to beam up. Next, use Ascend on the moving platform. Once it moves underneath the top platform, use Ascend again to reach the very top. Finally, interact with the green shrine to restore power to your hand and receive a Light of Blessing as a reward.

Go Back to The Closed Door and Open It

To return to the starting point of the quest, there's a convenient shortcut available. Near the Gutanbac Shrine, use the Ascend ability on a tree that appears dead, located above you. You'll discover some extra loot there, including Archaic Warm Greaves that boost your resistance to cold.

Proceed down the snowy path and you'll come across some Bird Machines. Take out a Fan from your Inventory's Zonai Devices and attach it to the back of a Bird by using the Ultrahand ability. If you don't have a Fan, you can obtain one from the Dispenser located to the right of the Birds (use Ascend to reach the top of the hill).

Position the bird machine close to the end of the bridge on the rails. Swiftly step onto it (it begins to slide down, so act fast), then strike the fan with a melee attack. Stay centered on the bird, as the active fan propels it forward. Once you're over the water near the Temple of Time, leap off. For better maneuvering, you can adjust the bird's balance by standing on its wings to shift it sideways or standing in the front to lower its altitude. This way, you can guide the bird in the direction you want to go.

Once you land in the water, you'll find yourself beside the Temple of Time. Climb up the stairs and interact with the door to complete the quest. And that's it, you've finished the main quest "The Closed Door" in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
