Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Prologue Quest Walkthrough

Starting Location: Prologue

At the beginning of the game, Link and Princess Zelda are exploring the subterranean ruins beneath Hyrule Castle. Your path is predetermined, and you must proceed by following the tunnels straight ahead.

Traverse the Hyrule Castle Ruins

Traverse the Hyrule Castle Ruins by following the linear path through the tunnel. As you progress, you will encounter cutscenes and dialogues. There will be a minor battle against Keese at one point. Continue descending the stairs until you reach the end of the tunnel, where a cutscene will trigger, resulting in Link losing his powers and being reduced to only Three Hearts ( Health ). Following this, Link and Zelda become separated.

Exit the Hyrule Castle Ruins

After being separated from Zelda, Link finds himself alone in a cave. He receives a message that his arm has been lost but kindly replaced with a new one. Proceed forward and retrieve Link's Decayed Master Sword, which has been damaged by the gloom but is still functional. Access the inventory by pressing the + button and equip the sword. Use the Y button to clear the vines blocking the path.

In the next room, examine the green Shrine to open the forward door. Follow the path and jump down into the water, then climb the next wall by walking against it, and Link will automatically grab it. Jump down into the next two pools of water, with the game teaching you that water will protect you from fall damage. To the left, there is a chest containing Archaic Legwear which can be equipped from the inventory for a defense boost. Proceed towards the light at the end of the tunnel and jump down.

Locate the Steward Construct

As you descend, you'll catch your first glimpse of the Great Sky Island, the game's first location. You will automatically land in the water. Swim straight ahead to the stone stairs in the direction of a flying dragon in the sky. Grab a Tree Branch as a weapon and equip it by holding the " ▶ directional button " and navigating it with the " Right Stick " to select a weapon from the inventory. Keep heading towards the flying dragon in the sky since you won't have access to the world map yet.

Along the way, you'll encounter a Soldier Construct, the game's first enemy. Defend yourself by striking it with your tree branch, and quickly grab another one if the first one breaks. You can also heal by eating apples from the inventory. Don't forget to loot what the enemy drops. Keep going in the direction of the flying dragon until you reach a broken stone bridge with a green " metal object " on the left. Interact with it to discover that it's actually a Steward Construct, a friendly robot that provides tips and explains gameplay mechanics.

This particular Steward Construct explains that Princess Zelda left behind a Purah Pad for Link, which unlocks the World Map by pressing the - button. This officially marks the start of the first proper Main Quest " Find Princess Zelda ". You can access the Adventure Log by pressing the - button to see the yellow waypoint in the north of the map, at the Temple of Time.
