How to Get to the Wind Temple in Tears to the Kingdom

There’s no special way to get to the Wind Temple; you will naturally get to it following objectives for the Main Quest Tulin of Rito Village, which begins when you get to Rito Village. You will need to polish your gliding and climbing mechanics, as the Wind Temple is quite high above the Hebra region, but Tulin will be a great help in this endeavor. Throughout the objectives that follow, you and Tulin will be hearing a peculiar sound and then later on a voice that only you two are able to hear. It seems there’s a stormy cloud way up in the sky that’s making the weather quite dangerous causing a huge snowstorm. Tulin, adamant that he’s grown enough now to investigate the cloud, Tulin spots Princess Zelda attacked by a monster and then flying into the cloud. Chasing after her for answers to all the mysteries, you ascend higher and higher with the help of Tulin’s ability, through the Hebra Summit Cave, the Rising Island Chain, and eventually drop down to the Wind Temple, at the center of the storm cloud.

Solving the Wind Temple Puzzle in Zelda TotK

When you land on the ship, there’ll be a cutscene where you’ll briefly see Princess Zelda, before a big gust of wind shoots off from the floor, revealing that the source of the extreme weather is indeed here, specifically under the hatch. Examine the mechanism to try and open the hatch, but something seems to be locking it n place. The voice you and Tulin have been hearing then clearly communicates that there are five locks that you have to release to open the hatch.

Releasing the First Lock in the Wind Temple

There’s an Ice Chuchu in this main deck where the mechanism is, as well as an Aerocuda that can swoop down and attack you. The closest objective to you, on the same level, lies further past the mechanism and the hatch. There’s an ice formation to your left that you can melt with any type of fire or fire-infused weapon to get five Arrows. To your right will be two gates facing each other, each with a lever to open it. The lever on the right seems to be broken, so turn around and get the icicle stick nearby and attach it to the broken lever, and then use Ultrahand to pull it. Head inside and use Tulin’s gust ability on the turbine, releasing the first lock. Use the lever across from you to open the other gate, for a chest containing an Opal, guarded by a Soldier Construct II.

Releasing the Second Lock in the Wind Temple

Head back out and then jump onto the updraft coming from the locked hatch to glide up with your Paraglider, turning around to get to the tallest structure on the ship, where three Aerocudas will be waiting for you. The hatches here can be opened with Ultrahand, so do so and then jump down. Carefully glide down past the lasers and then there should be a room with some stairs in front of you. Use Tulin’s ability on the turbine here to release the second lock. Turn around and you’ll be able to see a chest across the gap with the fan below. Do a series of jumping and gliding to get to it for a Soldier Blade, being careful not to glide long enough for the fan to shoot you back up.

Releasing the Third Lock in the Wind Temple

Glide back up quickly now and don’t worry if the lasers hit you as the updraft will make your ascent too fast for it to matter. Outside, head to the east and jump off the small balcony, turning left as you glide to spot a surface of thin ice. Position yourself right on top of it and then dive straight down, breaking the ice, into some water. Melt the ice so you can turn the lever and open the gate to a chest containing a Zonaite Shield. Back up to the room with water and Ascend right up to where a Soldier Construct II is waiting for you. Head to the west and jump the gap to an Ice Chuchu. Follow the path to the right to find some ice that you can melt for a chest containing ten Arrows. Walk further west to the edge and onto one of the balconies. Under you there’ll be a small ship with a sail you can jump on, so do a short glide and jump on it to rise straight up high. If you look to the left, there should be another small ship and a slightly-curved rectangular platform to its right. Use Tulin’s gust to push you in the direction of the platform and land there for a chest containing a Large Zonaite. Head to the north end of this platform, and caring the ship, if you look below you there should be another small ship to the left and an entrance to the ship in front of it. Glide and use the ship’s sail as a trampoline, and Tulin’s ability, as necessary to get in that entrance. When you do, there will be two Keese waiting for you. Head to the right, using Tulin’s gust to cross the gap, and then pull the lever here to open an exit or entrance just in case. Beside the lever is a box hiding seven Arrows. Behind you is a Captain Construct I guarding a Ruby on the floor. Above this enemy should be another floor with a hole in it, so Ascend up there and break the boxes for a whopping set of eighteen Arrows. Hug the wall to cross the gap and then look right first and move the stone plates away to find a chest containing a Captain I Reaper. Head the other way now and at the end of the path you should see something like a large metal rod hanging down from the ceiling. To its right is a closed window, and this rod has to be spinning for the window to stay open. You can attach stone plates to the rod and use Tulin’s ability to turn it, or just add one plate, use Ultrahand to turn it a couple of times, and then use Recall on it so it’ll move on its own long enough for you to go over the window. Head up another ladder to find a Soldier Construct II. As with the others, give the turbine a taste of Tulin’s ability to release the third lock. Move past the gate that opens up here and then melt the ice on your left for a chest containing a Soldier II Spear. The other side has two boxes you can break for another nine Arrows.

Releasing the Fourth Lock in the Wind Temple

Head to the large gust from the hatch and ride it up, looking toward the east this time. Use Tulin’s ability to head to the farthest platform you could see for a chest containing a Strong Construct Bow. Turn around and use Tulin’s help again to get to the sail of the small ship to your left, and then again to get to the entrance covered by icicles. Break them and head inside. While you’re out here the ship’s canon will try to aim at you with its red laser. It takes a while for it to actually shoot so you should be fine as long as you keep moving, but if you want to take it out just wait for it to shoot and then hit Recall on the canon ball. Once inside, two Keese will be waiting for you. To your left is a chest behind some bars, which will be a bit too far to reach with your Ultrahand. Use one of the icicles you dislodged from breaking in and attach it to the chest. The bigger the icicle, the easier this will be, but any of them will do. Now you can use Ultrahand on the attached icicle and pull the chest straight through the slot on the gate. Open it to get a Sapphire, which can sell for a good price later on. Back the other way will be a moving wheel with some paddles you can get on. Use Recall on it to get to the other side, where a Soldier Construct II will be waiting for you. Pull the lever to your right to open the window for later. Turn around to see a gate that can be opened by two gears to your left but they seem to be disconnected. Dislodge a large icicle or two from the ceiling above you, and then attach it to the gears to connect them, to get the second set moving as well. Use Tulin’s ability on the turbine revealed behind the gate to release the fourth lock.

Releasing the Fifth Lock in the Wind Temple

Climb out of the window you just opened, and slowly glide down making a U-turn to the right. You should see a small room under the ship that you can land on, with a Soldier Construct II waiting for you. Finally, use Tulin’s gust on the turbine here to release the fifth and final lock. Turn right and you should see a doorway you can get to by jumping a small gap. Head up the stairs and break the crates for eight Arrows. Head up the ladder and there should be a Soldier Construct II ready to ambush you to your left. Further to the right you can get through some lasers for the last chest containing another Ruby. From there there should be an arch right above you so Ascend up there, and then Ascend again to get to the room where you got your first chest. Head to the exit straight ahead to get back to the main deck and examine the mechanism to try opening the hatch once again.

How to Beat the Boss in the Wind Temple in Zelda TotK

With all five locks released, the hatch fully opens up, shooting both you and Tulin up with a huge gust of wind. As you begin to dive down, the dreadful Colgera flies up to greet you. The boss fight will initiate, and yes, it’s going to be an epic aerial battle for the most part.

Colgera is essentially a giant bug with three body segments, identifiable as the round shapes along his body. Destroying these three segments will be the main way to damage this boss. The underside of the segments are exposed sheets of ice crystals you can break with Arrows to then hit the weak points behind them. Luckily, because you are in mid-air the whole time, everything will be in slow motion whenever you try to aim with your bow, so this fight can be easy depending on your current max stamina and the current strength of your bows. Make sure you’re using Tulin’s ability throughout the fight whenever you need it. When you’re above it, Colgera will fire the spikes from one of its segments upward to attack you. When it does this, its movement slows down, and the released spikes will reveal the ice sheets under them. You can hit these with your Arrows again, or dive straight into them to also hit the weak point behind them with one attack. Colgera can also jump into a portal and reappear out of another one to surprise-tackle you. Tulin will try to tell you where it’s coming from though, but just keep this in mind. After you destroy all three of its segments, the second phase will begin and Colgera will regenerate its body segments. The only change for this phase is that it’ll create tornadoes to disrupt you and deal some damage. Keeping that in mind, deploy the same strategies and aim to destroy the three segments again and the boss will fall eventually. Finally defeating it will reward you with a Heart Container, and a tear-shaped object will float down at the center of the ship. Approach Tulin to initiate a cutscene, revealing more information about the Imprisoning War, from the voice that’s been calling out to Tulin all this time. Afterward, Tulin will bless you with his ring, the Vow of Tulin, Sage of Wind, so you’ll be able to call upon his swift windpower whenever you need it. Congratulations!

Speed Run Walkthrough

After speaking with Tulin at the Rito Village, getting his bow back, and then getting to the top of the Rising Island Chain, you’ll fly to the center of the storm cloud and land at a large ship, which is basically the Wind Temple. Examine the mechanism to move forward with your new objectives - release the five locks to ultimately open the hatch, find out what’s causing the extreme weather, and put a stop to it. Head across to the other side of the large gust of wind first. There will be some ice on your left hiding five Arrows if you want it. Otherwise, head to the right to find two gates facing each other, each with a lever in front, but the right one is broken. Attach an icicle to the broken lever to turn it. Use Tulin’s ability on the turbine inside to release the first lock. The gate across has a chest containing an Opal so pull its lever if you want it. Otherwise, head back to the main deck and ride the large gust of wind up to the ship’s tallest structure to the north. Use Ultrahand on the hatch here to open them and then drop down. Slowly position yourself on one of the upper corners and then dive straight down to avoid the lasers. Before the fan there should be an opening in front of you with the second turbine, so use Tulin’s ability on it to release the second lock. There’s another opening behind you a bit lower down with a chest containing a Soldier Blade if you want it.

Ride the updraft from the fan all the way back up, and then jump off and glide toward the east side of the ship. Look for an entrance blocked off by an icicle wall and descend toward it and break in. To your left is a chest far behind some metal bars, which you can get by attaching an icicle to it and using Ultrahand to pull it through the square slot. Otherwise, head to the right and stand on one of the paddles of the moving wheel. Use Recall on it to get to the other side. Pull the lever to your right to open a window for later. You’ll need to dispatch the Soldier Construct II here so it doesn’t disrupt your actions. Hit one of the large icicles on the ceiling and attach it to the gears to your left to connect them and get the ones on the right moving. Use Tulin’s ability on the turbine revealed by the opened gate to release the third lock.

Climb up the window you opened and glide down to an opening on the lower level still on the same side of the ship. Use Tulin’s ability on the turbine here to release the fourth lock. Turn right and head out a doorway you can get to by jumping the small gap, then head up the stairs. You can break the boxes to your left for eight Arrows if you want. Otherwise, head up the ladder and to the left. There’s a chest past the lasers containing a Ruby. Move forward to a gap you can easily cross with Tulin’s ability. The crate here is hiding seven Arrows. Quickly grab the Ruby near the enemy up some stairs if you want it, and then rush to one of the upper corners of the room and Ascend up. The crates here are hiding another eighteen Arrows. Hug the walls to cross the gap, after which there’s a chest to the right under some stone plates if you want to open it, containing a Captain I Reaper. Otherwise, head the other way and attach one of the nearby stone plates to the metal rod at the end of the hall. Use Ultrahand to rotate the structure a couple of times. Afterward, use Recall on it and then quickly climb up the ladder to the right and over the window that opens up as the rod moves by itself. Finally, head up the next ladder and use Tulin’s ability on the turbine here to release the fifth and final lock.

Head out the gate that will open after doing so, and if you want them, there’s a chest in the ice to your left containing a Soldier II Spear, and some crates on the other side hiding nine Arrows. Otherwise, head on over to the main gate and examine the mechanism to finally open the hatch. Colgera will fly out after another blast of air brings you and Tulin up, beginning the final fight for this temple. There are a couple of ways to go about this boss fight, but you basically want to destroy the three segments that make up Colgera’s body. This boss attacks in two main ways - it’ll either shoot the spikes on the back of its segments upwards at you, or it’ll tackle you after using a portal to teleport somewhere else. Both of these attacks can easily be dodged using Tulin’s ability. After it shoots out its spikes, its segments will only have a sheet of ice to protect them so either shoot at them with a bow and then shoot the weak point behind it (though if your bow is strong enough you might get them both with one arrow), or dive straight down to break the ice and hit the weak point behind it. The segments are also more vulnerable from below, with only the ice sheets protecting them. After breaking all three segments, it’ll enter its second phase which means it’ll regenerate its segments and add tornadoes to its arsenal of attacks. Otherwise though, you just need to do the same things to destroy all three segments. Eventually, the monster will fall, rewarding you with some more cutscenes and great boons for your adventure.
