How to Get to the Hyrule Castle in Tears to the Kingdom

After clearing all the Temples and acquiring the rings from the four Sages, you’ll go back to Purah to complete the Main Quest Regional Phenomena. A cutscene will ensue where a Blood Moon temporarily appears, and you both are able to see Princess Zelda in front of Hyrule Castle. Determined to rescue her, Purah will express how they are currently unable to get to the castle, making it your mission to do so and rescue the princess. Start doing so by heading first to Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. As you probably would have already done multiple times by now, examine the circular tile inside with blue runes to shoot yourself directly upwards at a great height and then glide down to Hyrule Castle. Before getting to the actual castle floating in the sky, while gliding take a quick look at the part of the castle that stayed on the ground, and on the southwest side you should see a doorway at the bottom of the wall, along the path from what would’ve been the castle’s main gate. When you head inside there should be two wooden gates you can raise with Ultrahand to pass through, some stairs to the left, another left turn after that, and then some more stairs downward this time to your left. Continue along the path to make it to the Guards’ Chamber. You can see a chest right when you enter on the other side of the room. You can either quickly go under it, and then Ascend up to get it, or go down the stairs and then around to the right where you’ll find a way up to the chest but will have to use Ultrahand to create a makeshift bridge to get to it. The chest contains a Royal Guard Uniform. Either climb up outside or Ascend up from here to get to a higher area and then glide to make your way to the northwest side into the murky underside of the castle and find an archway into the Docks. There’ll be some stairs on the left side which will have some Gloom Hands waiting for you at the top. Just keep going up the stairs and at the very top is a large brazier to your right which you can light with anything of yours that can make or is on fire. A chest will pop up behind you containing the powerful Hylian Shield. Fast-travel back to the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower and then use the blue runes to shoot up high in the sky again and then this time aim for the floating castle.

Exploring Hyrule Castle in Tears to the Kingdom

While gliding, make sure to use Tulin’s ability anytime you need to. Look down toward the castle and you should see the lower right structure of the castle closest to you, with a disconnected drawbridge, called the Second Gatehouse. Land on its highest floor and into the tower for a chest containing a Royal Bow. Anywhere you land you’ll hear Princess Zelda’s voice beckoning you to come find her. Do so now by jumping out and gliding down to the inside of the same structure, on its lowest floor. She’ll be there one moment and then disappear the next, leaving behind two Black Bokoblins led by a Black Boss Bokoblin in her place. There’s a chest to the north of this room containing a Royal Halberd.

Ascend up to the higher areas and look for a narrow doorway to the northwest, across the large drop. Jump and glide to it for a chest containing a Royal Shield. Ascend up from this room for another chest containing a Royal Claymore. Jump out to the northwest and glide down. Keep going and jump the gap on the wall to a lower area where you should see three Black Moblins gathered around a campfire. Continue gliding past them on the path to their right to an area with some dead trees. Near the edge, there should be an entrance to your right, marked bracket-shape in your minimap. Head down the stairs inside and follow the path all the way to the Library. Jump down and approach Princess Zelda to initiate a fight against a Black Hinox, with an Electric Chuchu, Fire Chuchu, and Ice Chuchu. Head to the north side and there should be a bookcase here that you can move with Ultrahand to reveal a room with a chest containing a pair of Royal Guard Boots. Head back out and up the stairs toward the princess to be ambushed yet again, this time by three Gibdo and a Moth Gibdo. Outside, you’ll see a tunnel with five Black Horriblins and one Blue Horriblin dangling on its ceiling. Follow the path paved with bricks until you see some stairs to the walls on your right and a tower with a bridge higher up. Climb up the stairs and follow the path to a group of monsters consisting of a Blue Lizalfo, a Black Moblin, and an Ice Like below. Head up the stairs to another lone Blue Lizalfo, and eventually to a dead end. Climb up the small portion of the wall here, and then circle around the bridge to the left and you should see an opening, showing the princess waiting for you in her room. As you enter, make a sharp left turn first to find a chest behind a divider, containing a Royal Guard Cap. Approach the princess now to fight against three Fire-Breath Lizalfos this time.

After the fight, head out the hole in the wall you came in from and then jump out and glide to the west side of the castle, and you should see an entrance on the lowest ledge you can get on before falling down the floating structure. Head in through there and approach Princess Zelda again for a fight against two Ice Keeses and a Silver Moblin. Ascend up from here and there should be a path to the south guarded by another Ice Like. Follow the path and you’ll see a Fire Like further along to the left, and some stairs down to the right. Head down and follow the path to get to the princess again, this time fighting three Shock Likes. Defeating them will reward you with three chests containing two Royal Bows and a Royal Shield. Head back toward the entrance you went into, but turn right before the doorway. Follow the rugged path up to the left onto some stairs. Outside, head to the southeast edge of this room, past some Gloom, and either Ascend from here or jump off the edge and climb up. Climb up another wall to your right to get to the walkway that leads to the center of the castle.

How to Beat the Boss in Hyrule Castle in Zelda TotK

Turn left and head into the castle where Princess Zelda is waiting for you to initiate a cutscene. She momentarily restores Hyrule Castle, eerily jumping from one spot to the next, until her voice changes to the rugged voice of the Demon Lord, revealing that the princess that you and the sages have been following all this time was nothing but a puppet that he created to mislead you. The puppet reveals its true form as Phantom Ganon, and the boss fight begins.

Just as you have the four sages’ avatars with you, Phantom Ganon will have four other iterations of him during this boss fight. Daunting as the fight is, his attacks aren’t actually too difficult to avoid. He’ll do some slow melee swings, a dash into a swing, or he’ll disappear into a cloud to move a bit quicker toward you and do a bit of a stronger energy slash. The general recommendation is to dodge these attacks and execute Flurry Rushes until you take them out one at a time. After you do, you’ll find he only has half of his health points left, which initiates the second phase. During this phase, he resummons his four imitations, but his attacks don’t really change. Instead, one of them will constantly try to cover the room in Gloom to make the fight harder for you. Luckily, whenever that one phantom tries, it’ll be immobile, allowing you to disrupt it with an arrow or two. Aside from that, the strategy remains the same: dodge into a Flurry Rush and take them down one at a time. Again, remember to watch out for that one guy who’ll try to be extra. Taking one of them out will result in the remaining clones doing their disappearing trick to try to hit you, but can come out with a different weapon. The ones wielding the more blunt weapons can jump to hit you instead of the usual slow dash. Nevertheless, his attacks are all still very telegraphed. Once you take all five of them out again, the boss will fall. Afterward, a cool cut scene where your four sworn elemental friends come in the nick of time to save you. The Demon Lord will also give you all a vision to give you a taste of what’s to come when he reawakens and calls forth his army of monsters. For winning here, you are rewarded with a Heart Container.

Speed Run Walkthrough

After speaking to Purah and spotting Princess Zelda in front of the gloom-filled castle, head to Lookout Landing Skyview Tower to shoot up and then glide toward Hyrule Castle. You want to land on the structure to your lower right, with a disconnected drawbridge. If you land on the highest floor, there’s a chest containing a Royal Bow if you want it. Otherwise, head into the structure to find yourself in the Second Gatehouse and approach the princess. She’ll disappear again and leave behind two Black Bokoblins and a Black Boss Bokoblin. If you want it, there’s a Royal Halberd in a chest on the north side. After clearing the monsters, head out the exit to the east, on the disconnected drawbridge. Head to the right on your way out and then jump and glide down, turning right and going past the waterfall. There should be an opening behind it you can go through. Head straight into the hall and then turn right at the end and then enter the large doorway to your left, past a bit of gloom, to get to the Library. Jump down to the lower floor and approach the princess. She’ll disappear again and leave behind a Black Hinox, an Electric Chuchu, a Fire Chuchu, and an Ice Chuchu. After clearing them head to the north and you can use Ultrahand on a bookcase at the north to move it and get a pair of Royal Guard Boots from a chest. Otherwise, just head up the stairs and out of the Library, and follow the princess again into a hall. This time she’ll leave behind three Gibdo and a Moth Gibdo. Clear them out and then follow the path up the stairs and out the hall. You should see a tunnel with some enemies in front of you. Head inside but immediately Ascend up. You’ll come out of some Gloomed ground but quickly jump off to the right and glide around the wall to the left and land on a tower with four spikes. Jump off this tower to the road on the left and follow the road until you get to some stairs on your right. Climb up the stairs onto the wall and then shoot the bridge above that connects to a tower. It should collapse and send a large piece of it near you. Climb on that piece and then use Recall on it to rise up and then jump and glide to the east and then jump into the hole on the floor into Princess Zelda’s Room. Approach her and she’ll disappear yet again this time leaving behind three Fire-Breath Lizalfos. After clearing the room, there’s a chest on the northwest corner of the room behind a divider containing a Royal Guard Cap, if you want it. Otherwise, look for the hole in the wall on the same side, jump off from it, and glide to the far west of the whole castle. There should be an entrance on the lowest ledge leading to the princess again. This time she’ll leave behind two Ice Keeses and a Silver Moblin before disappearing again. After the fight, Ascend up and find a path to the south guarded by an Ice Like. Rush past it until you find some stairs to your right heading down. Approach the princess down here to fight three Shock Likes. They’ll drop chests containing two Royal Bows and a Royal Shield. Head out the exit to the south and jump off, turning left as you glide, toward a waterfall. Equip the Zora Armor and then climb up the waterfall, using Tulin’s ability if you fall short trying to get on it. After shooting up, there should be another waterfall to your left so climb up that one too to get on the narrow arch right above it. This should take you to the center path to the inside of the castle to your right. Head straight to it and approach Princess Zelda to initiate a cutscene and then the boss fight.

Instead of one, there will be five Phantom Ganons to fight, matching your sages’ avatars. Their attacks are quite telegraphed, may it be slowly dashing toward you, or disappearing into a cloud and reappearing in front of you, so the main consistent strategy is to dodge his attacks and then counter with a Flurry Rush. Fight them one at a time to avoid any confusion and keep things easy. Defeating all of them will initiate the second phase where he resummons four more of himself and he’ll keep trying to spread Gloom on the field using one of his copies. That one copy will be immobile while doing so, so simply attack with your arrows to disrupt it. Other than that, he’ll sometimes be wielding different weapons as he reappears from his cloud. As with the previous phase, dodge and Flurry Rush them to death one by one until he eventually falls, rewarding you with cutscenes and a great boon for your adventure.
