How to Get to the Fire Temple in Tears to the Kingdom

There’s no special way to get to the Fire Temple; you will naturally get to it following objectives for the Main Quest Yunobo of Goron City, which begins when you get to Goron City. Throughout the objectives that follow, you and Yunobo will be hearing a peculiar sound and then later on a voice that only you two are able to hear. It seems Yunobo has actually been regularly conversing with someone who appears to be Princess Zelda, who gave him a mask that’s been making him act like a meaner, different person. Yunobo’s people seem to be afflicted with an addiction to marbled rock roast, due to his orders to mine it, which appears to be something Princess Zelda also introduced. After scrapping with him and breaking his mask, Yunobo turns back to normal but can’t seem to remember anything, except that it all began with Princess Zelda. Chasing after her, both out of concern for safety and for answers to all the mysteries, you follow him to the top of Death Mountain, then down to the Death Mountain Chasm, and finally into the Fire Temple.

Solving the Fire Temple Puzzle in Zelda TotK

Break the red rock blocking the entrance and head forward for a cutscene. You’ll see Princess Zelda behind a gate, brought up to the ceiling by some levitating red rocks. Examine the nearby mechanism to try to open the gate. It tries to push open but you’ll see it blocked by five padlocks. The voice you and Yunobo have been hearing then clearly communicates that you have to find a way to unlock all five to proceed further. Before you start, run back a bit past the downward slope of the short bridge and look to the first room on your left for a chest with ten Arrows.

Unlocking the First Padlock in the Fire Temple

Turn around now and walk towards the gate again. Head on the path to your left, right before the short bridge. A Soldier Construct II will be waiting for you. After making quick work of it, use the moving platforms to cross the short lava moat. Afterward, you can either use the Hydrants to your right on the lava to make some more platforms or use Ultrahand to move the ones you just jumped on over to the next lava moat to make a bridge, allowing you to cross that one as well. Get on the cart here and activate its fan to move through the rails. As you do, make sure to hit the mechanism on your left with Yunobo’s ability to allow the cart to move straight ahead instead of turning. After you stop at the next room, leave the cart for now and follow the path to the left. A Fire Like can block your path here with fireballs so deal with it accordingly. The chest that’ll drop from it will contain a Zonaite Shield. Afterward, climb up the wall to the west to where two Soldier Construct IIs will be waiting for you. There’s another chest on this floor on a raised platform to the south containing a Diamond. Head back down now and turn right to move forward. There will be a red rock blocking your way here, and if you try to use Yunobo’s ability to break it, he’ll fall short and hit the lava instead, so you’ll need to launch him from a bit higher or from a closer. point Head back to where you left the cart and there should be Hydrants there. Use one of them on the lava to make platforms to either raise yourself up or make a bridge directly to the rock. The other way is to backtrack and stand at an exact spot where the ground is raised relatively high, marked by a tiny deformed triangle on your minimap. Whichever method you choose, use Yunobo’s ability to break the red rock and open the way forward. You’ll find yourself in a room with a large gong. Hit it with Yunobo’s ability to ring it, thereby unlocking the first lock on the gate. Before heading out, there are two Hydrant Zonai Devices to your left near the exit.

Unlocking the Second Padlock in the Fire Temple

Head back to where you left your cart and continue on to the next set of rails. There are more carts to your right if you need one. As you go, there’s a red rock immediately to your left that you need Yunobo to break. Towards the end of the long straight path going upwards, stop the fan propelling your cart when the rails. As the path goes to the right, there’ll be a small platform you can jump onto with a chest. Jump onto it, making sure to use Ultrahand to park your cart with you first, and grab the ten Arrows from the chest. Put the cart back on the rails and move forward. There’s nothing in this stop, so hit the mechanism to the left of the cart-stopper to turn your cart right around. Heading back, make sure to hit the mechanism to change the direction of the rails to get to the next area. There will be two Igneo Pebblits waiting for you at the next stop. Hit the mechanism on this platform to connect the bridge in front of you and raise the boom barrier. Continue to a room guarded by a Soldier Construct II, with a chest containing another ten Arrows. There is a Rusty Halberd to the right of the chest as well. Hit the mechanism beside your cart to head back to the previous platform. This time, cross the bridge to your right and hit the mechanism here to connect the raised railing. Ride the cart nearby now to the next area. You can use the nearby Hydrant here to make platforms to cross, or you can use Yunobo to break the red rock to your left, which allows the activated Hydrant above to make platforms for you to cross. There will be a Soldier Construct II in the room, guarding the second gong. Ring it with Yunobo to unlock the second padlock. Before heading out, go to the southeast corner of this room, and use Ascend on the grate right before the lava, which brings you to a chest with three Zonaites. Then, cross over to the east for a Fan and Hydrant Zonai Device.

Unlocking the Third Padlock in the Fire Temple

Head back to your cart again and hit the mechanism nearby to turn it around. From here you can hit the device on the platform across the rails with an arrow, or you can ride the cart and hit it with Yunobo’s ability within a brief window. Either way, it should raise the railing back up allowing you to get to the third floor. There’s a Captain Construct II waiting for you in this large room with multiple railings. Behind it is a chest with another ten more Arrows, a Hydrant, and two Rocket Zonai Devices. The second railing counting from the west wall has a gap in the middle, so attach a Rocket or two on a cart and ride it to the next platform, jumping off if it falls short. A Soldier Construct II will be waiting for you here. If you look closely at the farthest railing to the east, you’ll see that its left rail is broken and is cut off at some point. Under the railing will be two carts put together by two hooks. Separate all four and attach the base of two hooks to both ends of one cart, and then attach a Fan behind it. Hook this up now to the right rail which isn’t broken, to ride it to a platform that has a chest containing a Ruby. Turn your makeshift cable car around and head back. Ignoring the stairs to the left, move forward and you should see broken bridges to your left, right, and in front of you. Use Ultrahand to stretch out the one to your right and break the red rock on top with Yunobo’s ability, to get a Flame Emitter and Fan Zonai Device from the wreckage. Afterward, fix the broken bridge in front of you by attaching the broken pieces together, and then climb up. Go around the tall structure in front of you to the right to find a chest containing, surprise surprise, another ten Arrows, trapped under two grates. Head back around the tall structure and back down the bridge you just fixed. If you look above the tall structure, you’ll see a red rock sticking out from the ceiling. Back away a few steps and then use the bridge as a ramp to shoot Yunobo up to break it. A large crate will fall down, which you can get on top of and then use Recall on to get to the top. The third gong awaits you there, so ring it with Yunobo to unlock the third padlock.

Unlocking the Fourth Padlock in the Fire Temple

Head back down and then head to the large room with multiple railings by taking the middle railing back. This time, ride a cart on the railing closest to the east side of the wall, in the direction of where the second gong was. Move your cart to the next railing on the short stopover and press on. The next platform should have a red rock you can break with Yunobo. Put a cart on the middle railing here, pointing towards the east. Before riding it, you should see two mechanisms standing just a few inches apart from each other to the southeast. Hit the one on the right first with an arrow to rotate the middle part of this railing. Hop on your cart now to get to a room with a chest containing a Strong Zonaite Shield. Hit the mechanism near your cart to turn it around and head back to the previous platform. There’s no cart-stopper here so make sure to stop the fan well shortly after starting it, before jumping off. If it goes too far though, you can always use Recall to get it back. Turn it around again towards the same direction where you got that previous chest. This time, however, of the two mechanisms to the southeast, hit the one farther from you with an arrow to raise the middle part of this railing up. Hop on your cart and ride it, upwards this time on a long winding path to the next platform. There will be a Soldier Construct II waiting for you, as well as a chest on the upper left corner, containing yet another ten Arrows. Ride the cart on the next railing to the next platform. There’s another Soldier Construct II at the end of this railing, waiting to greet you on a cart of his own. You can either fight him cart-to-cart anime style or just use Recall on its cart and have an easier time fighting it over on the platform. In any case, follow the path here, making sure to do a quick hop over the gap in the bridge. At the end of the path, jump and glide over to the lower flow and hit the mechanism down here to lower the railing. Ride the cart to a large room where the fourth gong is. It’s too high for Yunobo’s ability to reach so you’ll need to make a ramp in front of it before the lava. Break the red rock to your right by shooting Yunobo up the inclined platform. It’ll reveal an active Hydrant that’ll make square platforms on the lava below it. Grab the longer platform and attach the newly-created square platform to it to make an L-shape to serve as your ramp. Position it accordingly in front of the gong to get Yunobo to ring it, thereby unlocking your fourth padlock.

Unlocking the Fifth Padlock in the Fire Temple

If you follow where the last objective is on your map, it’ll be in a structure that’s cut off by a broken bridge behind you currently, and blocked by a red rock. However, if you break the red rock, you can then glide your way into where it is from a higher level. Use the ramp you just made and place it on the broken bridge to use Yunobo to break the red rock. Use the cart and railing you used to get here to get back to the platform where the last railing mechanism was. From there, Ascend up to get to the path where the bridge with a tiny gap is. Follow the path back this time and you’ll get to a part without a fence. Jump off of it, but turn around and slowly glide into the structure that you now opened by breaking the red rock. Avoiding the hole, hug the left wall and then Ascend up to a chest containing a Large Zonai Charge. Glide down two floors and you should see a chest on the northeast wall containing a Soldier II Reaper. Jump down to the lowest floor and open the chest to the left of the green gate for Strong Zonaite Longsword. Finally, ring the fifth gong using Yunobo’s ability to unlock the fifth and last padlock. Hitting the small yellow pillar to the right should let you out. Follow the path out all the way to find yourself in front of the gate to give the mechanism another go and try to open it.

How to Beat the Boss in the Fire Temple in Zelda TotK

With all five padlocks unlocked, the gate now seamlessly opens dropping into the lava. Head into the dome to find it completely empty save for the cluster of red rocks on the ceiling, which you initially saw bring Princess Zelda up. Have Yunobo roll straight up the curved wall to break it with his ability. Behold, the Marbled Gohma appears, and concluding that Princess Zelda might be inside this large monster, you will begin to engage it.

In this phase, the Marbled Gohma will be spitting out exploding red rocks that you’ll have to avoid. If you get too close to one of his legs, it’ll try to stomp on you with it. You’ll notice, however, that its legs are made up of red rocks as well, which means you can destroy them with Yunobo’s ability. After you destroy two of them, his main body will drop down unable to attack, so you can rush in and deal a lot of damage by hacking at its eye. After some time, it’ll recover its legs but simply repeat the same tactic again. When you decrease its health to half, it’ll learn from this experience and instead scuttle to the ceiling and attack you from there instead. With the effort it takes to hang on the ceiling, however, you only need to destroy one of its legs this time to get it to fall. Line Yunobo up toward one of its legs, and let him loose on the curved wall to hit. When it tumbles down, rush in to maximize damage to its eye once again. If you get its health low enough, it’ll move faster this time along the ceiling, so quickly but carefully aim Yunobo at one of its legs again to bring it down and finally finish it off. Finally defeating it will reward you with a Heart Container, and a tear-shaped object will float down at the center of the room. Approach Yunobo to initiate a cutscene, revealing more information about the Imprisoning War, from the voice that’s been calling out to Yunobo all this time. Afterward, Yunobo will bless you with his ring, the Vow of Yunobo, Sage of Fire, so you’ll be able to call upon his rolling firepower whenever you need it. Congratulations!

Speed Run Walkthrough

After speaking with Yunobo at YunoboCo HQ, and breaking his mask after a fight, make your way to the top of Death Mountain using the carts and rails in the area. After a short boss fight, follow Yunobo down to Death Mountain Chasm, and then to the Fire Temple. Break the red rock in front of you and move forward for a cutscene. Examine the mechanism to move forward with your new objectives - to unlock five padlocks and ultimately open the gate and get to Princess Zelda. If you want it, head back first from here and the first small room to your left will have a chest containing ten Arrows. Otherwise, head back anyway but turn right to a path right after the short bridge. Cross the lava with the moving platforms and then bring them over the next stream of lava to make a bridge across. Hop on the cart and activate the fan to move forward, making sure to use Yunobo’s ability on the mechanism on your left as you go. Get off the cart and follow the path to the left. You can kill the Fire Like here for a chest containing a Zonaite Shield. There’ll be a red rock blocking the way, but it’s too far for Yunobo’s ability to hit at this height. Head back a bit to get to a higher level, and position yourself exactly over what looks like a tiny deformed triangle on your minimap. Face the red rock and then shoot Yunobo from here to break it. Otherwise, you can use one of the Hydrants near where you left your cart to create platforms to make a bridge in order to hit it from a closer point. Move forward and enter the room to find a large gong. Hit it with Yunobo’s ability to unlock the first padlock.

Head back to where you hopped off your cart and proceed on the next set of rails, making sure to break the red rock that appears immediately to your left as you go. When you land on the platform, hit the mechanism nearby to turn your cart around and ride it back, this time hitting the device in front of you with Yunobo. On the next platform, cross the bridge to your left and hit the mechanism here. Ride the cart to get to a large room with flowing lava. Use Yunobo to break the red rock to your left to reveal an active Hydrant which will keep creating platforms that will move toward you. Hop on one of them and then use Recall to cross quickly. Follow the path to find the second gong and hit it with Yunobo’s ability to unlock the second padlock. You can ascend here for a nearby chest with three Zonaites. Otherwise, head back the way you came.

Hit the mechanism to turn your cart around. When you ride it there will be a brief window to hit a device with Yunobo’s ability so make sure to do so, for the railing to take you to a large room with multiple railings. There’s a chest behind Captain Construct II with ten Arrows. Attach a rocket behind a cart and put it on the second railing from the west wall, and ride it to the next platform. Be ready to jump in case you fall short. Follow the path to the right and reattach the two parts of the broken bridge in front of you. You can find a chest with another ten Arrows if you climb up this bridge and then follow the path around. Otherwise, step back a few steps and then let Yunobo loose towards the bridge. Climb on top of the crate that just fell, and then use Recall to ride it up to the third gong. Ring it with Yunobo to unlock the third padlock.

Head back down and toward the direction you came from and ride a cart on the middle railing back to the large room with multiple railings. When you hop off, there should be two devices to your left just inches from each other. Hit the one on the right once, and then the one on the left twice (make sure the railing moves twice). Then, hop on the cart to your right and ride it out. This will take you upwards first, then along a bit of a long straight path, turn left, and then left again. On the last turn, look to your left and then jump off to land on what looks like a broken bridge inclined slightly upward to quickly get to the fourth gong. Use Yunobo’s ability along the inclined rectangular platform to your right to break the red rock to reveal an active Hydrant. Take the square platform it creates on the lava and attach it to the rectangular one you just used to make an L-shaped ramp. Place it accordingly in front of the gong, aim Yunobo’s ability toward it to ring the gong, and unlock the fourth padlock.

Use Ultrahand to bring your new ramp to a broken bridge to your left and use Yunobo’s ability on it again to break a red rock. Afterward, get onto the ramp and glide across and down to a ledge on your left, where you should see two red rocks. After you land, look to the southeast and you should see another two mechanisms that are just inches apart. Hit the one on the right with arrows three times (you should hear the railing move thrice). Put the nearby cart on the second railing that curves on the minimap, pointing it toward the east, and then ride it to a higher platform. There is a chest here with ten Arrows if you want it. Otherwise, ride the next railing up to where a Soldier Construct II is waiting for you in its own cart. Hop off and rush past it, heading to the immediate right for the gap in the fence. Jump off and glide turning around to get into the crater you opened up when you destroyed a red rock with a makeshift ramp. If you want them, there’s a chest on the highest floor containing a Large Zonai Charge, and then another one two floors below that with a Soldier II Reaper. Otherwise, glide all the way down the large hole to get to the lowest floor, with another chest containing a Strong Zonaite Longsword. Ring the fifth gong here with Yunobo’s ability to unlock the fifth and final padlock.

Hit the yellow pillar nearby to free yourself, follow the path all the way back to the front of the temple, and finally use the mechanism to open the gate. The dome behind it is empty save for red rocks on the ceiling that you should break by aiming Yunobo’s ability on the curved wall, causing the Marbled Gohma to appear. The strategy for this fight is fairly simple: use Yunobo’s ability on its legs, which are made up of red rocks, to break them and make the boss collapse. When it does, get as much damage in as possible on its eye. It will either throw red rocks near you which explode, or try to stomp its leg at you if you get too close. At half health it will hang onto the ceiling instead, so use the curved walls to hit one of its legs with Yunobo’s ability to repeat the same strategy. Rinse and repeat until eventually, the monster will fall, rewarding you with some more cutscenes, and great boons for your adventure.
