Phantom Ganon is a Boss in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Phantom Ganon is part of the Crisis at Hyrule Castle main quest and is found in Hyrule Castle. This is not an optional boss as players need to defeat it to advance the story of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

A monster created from the very flesh and blood of Demon King Ganondorf that will follow his bidding without hesitation. Like the Demon King it so resembles, this huge creature is a master of many weapons. It will attack its foes relentlessly and without mercy.

Facing it in battle is inadvisable-unless you want a quick ticket to the afterlife.

Phantom Ganon Fight Strategy

Phantom Ganon Strategy Writeup

After a cutscene, the fight begins, but Phantom Ganon is not alone, there are 4 other copies of himself. Even though each clone has its own health, they all share from the same health pool, so dealing damage to one also lowers the general Phantom Ganon's health bar.

Dodging can be the best way to deal damage and dispatch Phantom Ganon as fast as possible. Especially if you master its timing and manage to use the Flurry Rush counter-attack.

Another suggestion for this fight is to bring all your champion avatars, each one of them will pair with a clone, leaving you to face the remaining one. As mentioned, try to keep the fight 1v1 to avoid being overwhelmed. Dispatch one clone, and face the next one.

After all five clones have been defeated, Phase 2 begins and all five clones re-emerge. One of the clones will start to spread gloom all over the room, while the other four will aggro you. To stop the gloom from spreading, you have to land a Critical Hit on the head of the gloom-summoner. This will leave him defenseless. You can use an Arrow for this. A regular arrow shot will only stall the process, but it can come in handy in certain situations in which you need to regroup. Yourchampion avatars, if present, will be incapacitated if they are touched by the gloom.

If the one one that's spreading gloom is killed, any of the remaining clones can take his place and fill the room with gloom. So don't let up once you killed the one behind this, and always be aware of what all the clones are doing.

Also note that during the second phase, all clones can switch up the weapons they are wielding. Giving them new attacks and more importantly, different timing windows, which may complicate things when dealing with them.

Phantom Ganon Attacks & Counters

Attack Description Counter
Right Slash slashes from right to left at medium height Use the dodging technique, try to time it perfectly to be able to land a few hits
Downward slash Attacks from upside, using his sword Use the dodging technique, try to time it perfectly to be able to land a few hits
Spinning attack Charges the attack from its left side, and spins in a counterclockwise movement. This will leave him "stunned" for a few seconds. Move back from Phantom Ganon, and move forward to land a few hits.
Second Phase
Spread Gloom One of the clones will stay on its place, spreading gloom all over the ground. Shoot an Arrow to his head to land a Critical Hit.
