This slender sword has an ominous presence. It is said to end the life of anyone it touches. Its gloom will gradually wear down the body of its wielder.

Gloom Sword is a One-Handed Weapon in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. Weapons in Zelda TotK feature a diverse set of weapons, each having its own stats, strengths, and weaknesses. Players must remember that weapons will eventually break once their health starts to chip when it is used, however, luckily, weapons can be easily found by looting chests, destroying grass, stealing it from enemies, and crafting or infusing different weapons or materials.

    • Ah, the enemy that drops these is always a shock the first time you discover it. And the spoils are well worth the effort to boot.

The Gloom Toll effect works thusly: every few times you HIT something (i.e. when durability is used up - so whiffs and whacking Lynel's while riding them doesn't trigger it, but hitting enemies and objects does), you take 1 heart of Gloom damage. I'm not sure of the exact number, but one combo with this sword results in 1 damage more or less.

This means this weapon only gets more useful the further into the game you are, as more Hearts and better Armour means the self damage matters less and less and you can kill the bosses carrying these easier and easier. The Gloom damage will quickly regenerate outside of the Depths as long as you aren't in combat, only making it easier to simply take a few hearts of damage for its very high power.

Additionally, like every other weapon, its bonus effects don't take effect when fused to another weapon - so by all means strap this 41 attack pointy stick to another stick for an easy boost to your power (bonus points if its a fuse attack doubling Gerudo weapon). The only real downside apart from the self-damage is that it generally doesn't have as much durability as other weapons and will never DROP with modifiers - however you can feed one to a Rock Octorok and it'll add a modifier to it like every other non-Amiibo, non-Magic Wand weapon. In short - well worth the effort, and the fight is cool too.
