Rock Octorok is an Octoroks in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Rock Octorok is a member of the Octoroks family that lives in volcanic regions and makes a return to give a new feature: Weapon Upgrades. Restoring your Weapons' Durability is now made possible by interacting with this creature.

This octopus-like species of monster lives in volcanic regions. When they inhale, they're preparing to spit out flaming rocks. Be aware of that powerful suction.

Upgrade Weapons with Rock Octorok in Zelda: TotK

Rock Octorok returns in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with a new feature that will let you upgrade your weapons. To start upgrading your weapon you must first look for a Rock Octorok. These creatures are scattered in the volcanic mountains, and they can help Link by repairing Weapons & Shields. This allows for restoring their durability to make the weapons last longer. A Rock Octorok can be identified by the chunk of rock that sits on top of its head and these creatures like to stay burrowed. This creates the perfect camouflage in their surroundings, making them easy to miss. These creatures are also not the friendliest, and they can be aggressive and start to throw rocks in your direction when they are out on the ground.

Once you have located a Rock Octorok, approach it carefully without getting blown away by its attacks. The projectile of its attacks is slow so dodging it shouldn't be a problem. Once you're close enough to it, drop the weapon that you would like to upgrade in front of it. You can repair any of the Weapons like One-Handed WeaponsTwo-Handed WeaponsSpears, and Bows. Then, move away at a safe distance where you can still see it. A few seconds later, the Rock Octorok will begin an inhaling motion, vacuuming the weapon that you had just dropped. After a while, the monster will glow and turn sparkly indicating that the repair is done.

The next thing you need to do is to wait for it to throw the weapon in your direction, and once you retrieve it, you will see it in your Inventory with its durability restored, with an upgraded modifier added to it. You can read up on the Weapon Stats in your inventory. This interaction may only be done once every Blood Moon, but you can always visit different Rock Octorok locations to maximize their new feature, this should allow you to reset the durability for each of your Equipment.

Enhance Weapons with the Rock Octorok

The Weapons Modifier is always random, and if you have a preferred modifier that you would like to have on your weapon, you may need to keep upgrading your weapon by offering it to the Rock Octorok until you get your desired results. A good thing to note is that the new modifier will always be better than the existing one, meaning, your weapons will not be downgraded. You can read more about the full details on how Weapon Upgrades work here. One known trick that you can use to bypass this is by saving and reloading, enhancing your weapon until you get the desired results.

Remove Summons While Upgrading Weapons

When you're out hunting Rock Octoroks, it will be easier to remove the summons while doing so. The sage summons are very strong and it is possible for the Sages to defeat it while trying to get your Equipment upgraded. To do this, press + to bring up the Inventory screen. From there, switch to the Key Items tab and look for the Sage that you want to disable. Select it and press the A button. This will show another pop-up menu where you can select the 'Dismiss' option. And that's how you turn off the Sage summons. If you don't have any of the Sages yet, make sure to check this guide and do their respective quests to unlock them: Main Quests

Rock Octorok Not Upgrading Weapons?

In some instances, you may have experienced the Rock Octorok will vacuum in your weapon, but the durability will not be restored. There are 2 reasons for this:

  • Weapon Durability is limited to once only per Blood Moon
  • Legendary Weapons cannot be restored.

If you wanna see the full list of Weapons that you can repair, check out the Weapons gallery.
