Status Effects and Bonuses in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are individual bonus effects per Armor piece. Status Effects appear in all types of armor pieces like Helms, Chest Armor and Leg Armor as well as in some Food that are cooked with specific Materials. Note that Status Effects are different from Set Bonuses which are gained from completing an Armor Set. Thus it is possible to have both the set bonus and Status effect per individual piece giving a devastating combo of stats. This page covers a list of all Status Effects in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Zelda TotK Status Effects and Set Bonus Guide
Information on Status Effects
Status effects are added buffs that have unique properties that players can give Link by equipping specific Armor pieces or consuming Food with specific Materials in them. These are mainly used to benefit Link in situations such as being in regions with extreme weathers, fighting in battles, or in his travels.
Consuming Elixirs or Food with Materials that give these status effects will help players a great deal when you don't have the required Armor for the situation. Although the duration of the status effects in the Food and Elixirs are completely customizable by increasing the amount of Materials used in the recipe, players are unable to stack status effects on top of each other or extend the duration of the current status effect. Consuming an Elixir or Food with a different status effect will override the first one you've taken. Players will need to keep in mind that cooking two Materials with status effects in them will cancel each other out, also using Dragon Parts will only expand the timer of the elixir so players will still have to add in a monster part, and a critter on top of that.
Throughout the game, players will receive separate Armor pieces as rewards or find them in chests all around Hyrule. Equipping Armor pieces will help players in the long run of the game as you will not need to keep an eye out on your status effect timer and worry about not having enough Materials to craft more consumables. Wearing different armor certainly increases Link's defense, providing a higher level of protection against enemy attacks. In addition, Armor with status effects greatly benefits Link in the different situations he can be in.
Information on Set Bonuses
Set bonuses are bonus buffs given to Link when he is equipped with the full set of the Armor, players will again the effects of the full set of the armor that is not present in the individual set pieces. Each unique set of armor gives Link different benefits to his situations. These may include receiving extra attack power when fighting Enemies, decrease the consumption of stamina when gliding, climbing, or swimming, or being is regions that are extremely cold or extremely hot.
The requirement for Link to receive the set bonus effect is to simply wear the complete set of the Armor, otherwise players will only get an increase status effect of the effects that are on the individual Armor pieces. Wearing the full set of Armor often requires finding and completing specific challenges or quests, which adds a sense of accomplishment in the game.
These bonus effects can be crucial for the player's progress in the game, allowing them to perform better in battles and explore further into different regions. It also encourages players to collect all the Armor pieces of a set for the benefits and the overall look of the completed set, rather than mixing and matching.
